I'm starting tonight. I have read your spoiler, mainly because I have read the series, so it's difficult for me not to want to jump ahead. Pooh will have to keep me in check :)

anyways.......yeah I agree with your interpretation so far.

Spoiler Alert!
It's hard to tell if it's post-apocolyptic or just what has happened yet. Maybe it's possible polution did this to the land. Quick get a Prius!

Ok, so I've already broken the rules. I'm on page 29 (about to start section VI) but I decided I would post my thoughts on the story so far just in case I can't finish that section before Saturday. I'll try though. Anyhow, I'd love to know what your interpretations are, too, so let's have them!

Spoiler Alert!
Well, I gather that the world is somewhat post-apocolyptic. I'm unsure at this point if that's true, and if so, what caused it, but it's a bleak place. I picture it starting in the desert with the gunslinger near what once was a highway. The atmosphere is very desperate. People struggle to simply survive. The only escape some have is the devil-weed which ultimately results in their doom. I'm surprised Brown hasn't gone insane living by himself so isolated from everything. Everything seems to have a very harsh existence.

That sounds good to me, but I thought 'V' was about 30 pages. I don't have my book on me at the moment. ;)

In looking at the book, 3 "chapters" would actually the lion's share of this particular story whereas going by the roman numerals it works out to about 14 pages or thereabouts. What about, say, read 30 pages or to the end of whichever roman numeral section you're on every 30 pages?

I might have a problem with 3 chapters a week.. I have a bunch of things going on right now, but I will do my best..

Sounds like a go to me. Then we can throttle the number of chapters IF need be. I have about 3 other books im reading, 1 more one the way, the then hp7 in july. I shouldn't have any problem with 3 chapters a week.

I'm going to jump here and say reading will begin on Saturday, June 9th. In taking Saint's suggestion, we will read 3 chapters. Discussions will be the following week, BUT reading the next 3 chapters will also be next week. So a week will consist of reading 3 chapters, and discussing the 3 chapters from the week before.

Sorry Knock, just got tired of waiting!!! I'm too excite!!!!

Butt in if you had alternate plans. ;)

I have my copy of The Gunslinger. I'm ready to begin the collective reading when everyone else is. I suggest a modest pace, however, as I'm sure there are several of us who are also currently reading other items. May I suggest something along the lines of three chapters a week?

Nahh, even the Gilmore Girls aren't gay enough to say things like "growdy"

She would if it were Gilmore Girls, but we'd never finish it. They had to split the first book into 3 installments, cause the girls spent 10 minutes to say, "No, I'm not going to the prom with Jesse, cause he's growdy."

Ok, I suggest reading the revised edition of the gunslinger. If you don't have it and don't/can't get it that's keww too. I know it's in paper back and should be fairly cheap. The difference, I think, is when King saw where he was headed with the story he went back to make the first book a little more coherent.

I believe a majority of the people reading this time around have not read the series so lets try to only discuss what is happening in the current book. I wish we had subthreads so that we could discuss by chapter, that would be neato.

I think Anubis is going to pick up after the second book seeing as he JUST finshed it. I'm very excite!
