Usually the IRS processes incoming filings on Thursdays, and if you get direct deposit, you usually get your money the Friday of the following week.

I haven't really looked at mine anymore in the last week. I really need a receipt for a car donation, and still haven't seen it. I'll be calling Goodwill tomorrow I think.Frown

Ok so Pooh and I managed to do our taxes online, by a site recommended by the IRS of course. So we submitted them on the 29th, and WE STILL HAVEN'T HEARD IF THE IRS HAS ACCEPTED OR REJECTED THEM!!! I want our money damnit!!!!!!!!! RANTING!
Anyway, has anyone else submitted theirs? And how long did it take if so? I called up the IRS and (HUGGEEEE MISTAKE THERE) after waiting 15 minutes on hold the guy says, "Obviously we are very backed up this time of year, your tax return acceptance is pending." He did say that yes, the website we filed with was recognized by the IRS and not phony, so we're in the clear there, but DAMN IT IS TAKING FOR FREAKIN EVER!!!
Ok, I'm done with the rant, just lemme know how you guys are coming along.

pooh/star...i'd seriously consider a private accountant over hrblock. hrblock charges per item so if a lot of thins happened it could be near $300.

Also, you could do the online preparation...see what the net result is, then take it to one of those chain companies and see what they come up with. If they save you a lot of money then go ahead and file with them. If its the same, then you can go back home with no charges.

Move to Georgia. You'll pay state taxes...

I have never had to pay any extra into state taxes, I usually get about 100 dollars back. Maybe you are doing something wrong... Did you remember to carry the one?

I'm freakin' terrified of tax season this year. Pooh and I will have to go to a preparer (like HR Block) because I was on unpaid maternity leave for a month and a half, Pooh's home business, Pooh had two jobs at the early part of last year, and for the past few months I haven't really been working. It could swing two ways for us, one, we could get an assload of money (Which I SERIOUSLY doubt) or two, have to pay in an assload of money. Of course, living in the state of Arkansas period, they want about HALF of what you get back in your federal refund. It's ridiculous. HEY ARKANSAS SENATORS, WHY DON'T YOU WORK ON THAT SHIT INSTEAD OF THE ROAD CONDITIONS AROUND HERE!! Ok sorry for the rant. Raspberry On another note, if you guys have a recommendation for a tax preparer just let us know, usually we e-file, so we have no clue.

here is the link to the irs's free online filing. You have to fall within the criteria but its worth checking out.

I was like you last year Quade, moved states and crap...I went to the local H&R Block office and got ass fucked. $300.

In hindsight I wouldn't do that again. I'll probably do H&R Block online this year. I'm just used to it, I've used it 2 or 3 years now.

So I'm doing H&R Block this year. I'm just going to pay for all the extra shit -- I bought my first home, I have 2 mortgage companies (one bought the other), we donated a car last year (and a ton of other shit when we moved, like computers and monitors), I had partial residency in two states last year.... this shit is getting complicated.

It sucks though, that it charges for each state I file for.

What are you guys doing about taxes?

I know there are free filing systems for people that make less than a certain amount, but I don't qualify for that. I just spent like 2 hours going through the H&R Block online system -- I got to the end, but I saved it rather than completing it. They want $45 to do state and federal, and I'm already going to owe Georgia $160. So fuck it, I'll do it by hand.

Turns out, I can use the EZ forms after all (I thought I wouldn't be able to since our W2s come from multiple states, but they technically don't). Which means doing my taxes in PDF format should take about 15-20 minutes when I do it for real.

I'm still pissed that they did away with tele-file. I really liked that. Plus it was fast to get returns. Frown

I used turbotax's website to do my taxes. I have used it the past couple of years and it has worked out well for me. It is free to file, but they charge you to use thier software. It cost me 45 bucks to do federal and state.

I only got free online filing last year when Pooh and I made the mistake of filing seperately, and I didn't make enough per year to be charged anything. THAT'S what they mean by "free online filing." Nice eh? BUT Turbo Tax still charged me the 24.95 or whatever, so I guess it wasn't completely free for me then either. *pout*

We planned on buying the TurboTax software, but I wasn't sure if there would be any more fees once we filed, AND we were anxious to get them done. We got our final W-2 Saturday, and I filed them at TurboTax.com that night. We paid $65 total. There were 3 fees that I know of, just don't know how much each was. But each fee was for doing the federal, doing the state, and the fee for e-file from the bank. Will be getting our refund on the 10th!!!!!Smile

I think TurboTax would be your best bet. Go to their site and see if there is a package for you. Basic ($20), Deluxe ($35), Premium ($???) That's about the round about prices for that.

man, that sucks. i thought that software was supposed to handle everything?

i used their site about 3 years ago when i did mine and laura's taxes. of course, we didn't have anything extra other than income, so i would have probably been better off using the 1040ez form. but this year, i have stocks income, and interest on student loans to consider. so we'll see.

i wish that free online fileing meant free online fileingFrown

started using HandR Block online. I've used it the past few years, but this year I can't. Since we sold a bond money house the software isn't sophisticated enought to figure it.
