Ok I just saw the movie again... still ultra bad ass BTW. But BECAUSE of Pooh's (len's flare) comment. I did notice about a million and three lens flares in TF. I chuckled everytime I saw one....needless to say, I chuckled a lot :D

Also on the Frenzy aspect. for the most part he was very effective, he fought well, he did the missions he was supposed to do, all while having a some what under developed voice, the point is he was effective. Jar Jar however, only succeeded by screw up.

All hail Megatron!

I can't exactly remember why you would rather be donkey punched than to like any of Michael Bay's movies, but I was checking out IMDB and with the exception of Armageddon I like all of his films. If it's the whiney aspect, it's a requirement...he works in HollywoodSmile

I hate to actually admit I love this film so much, be cause it's one of those 'neck blowed up real good moovees. But the man does know how to put together an action flick.

Now don't read too much into this, I don't wanna suck em off or have his chirrens or anything.Wink

My least favorite was Frenzy as well, however I think it's a bit harsh to liken him to Jar-Jar...cause remember Jar-Jar was REALLY BAD.. plus also remember Lucus sux Smile

Hmm. I posted my thoughts, but it didn't post. Weird.

I loved the movie, but still hate Michael (lens flare) Bay. Jar Jar...er...Frenzy was somewhat annoying. I'm looking forward to the second one. I hope Michael Bay whines his way to doing the second one too. I'm sure Paramount will pay the ridiculous price he'll be asking for. Maybe a bigger movie budget too. Smile

Two NEW TV spots

IGN - Hidden & Destiny

Hidden- some new stuff shown.
Optimus - brief robot to vehicle mode
Frenzy - finally shown to be a radio (vehicle to robot)
Megatron - Brief glimpse of excavation (protoform possibly)
Incinerator - somewhat clearer vehicle to robot mode (brief)
Starscream - brief robot mode
Ironhide - robot mode
Brawl - a little more robot than shown in original trailer

Destiny
Bumblebee - old Camaro (vehicle to robot)
Starscream - Vehicle to robot (I must say I originally didn't like him, but this preview erased that. He's pretty sweet. Ugly as hell, but cool.)

I thought the same thing Quade. I wonder if it's just for the trailer, or if the movie will have a 'scary' feel to it.

I didn't get to see the 'full screen' version, cause it requires you to download the software. I'll check it out at home tonight though. The small version directly from the site was poor quality.

[quote]Posted: Friday, August 18, 2006 at 3:11 pm EDT
Here are the characters. You can go here for a transcript of the video chat...

Autobots:
Optimus Prime - Classic Prime type character. True hero of the Autobots.
Bumblebee - Underdog type character. The scout. Smallest of the gang. (Spike mentioned)
Jazz - Rock n' roll style character.
Ratchet - New form. Emergency vehicle. Medical officer/Science officer. Repairs Transformers injured in battle.
Ironhide - Optimus' oldest friend. Gritty

Decepticons:
Megatron - Survival of fittest. Less idealistic version of humanity.
Starscream - 2-faced. Secretly plotting to overthrow Megatron. Doesn't neccassarily want Megatron's duties, but wants to be leader.
Brawl - Pissed off Decepticon. Heavy lifter. One of the first ones not from G1. More experemental with Decepticons. More G1 styled characters to come with sequals.
Bonecrusher - Closest to constructicon. Hates all other Decepticons except for Megatron.
Barricade - Hunter type. Cop car, likes to get to things first.
Skorponok - closest to a beast era type of character.
Frenzy - Character who evolved from Soundwave. Had contradictions to the original Soundwave, so they changed him to Frenzy. Smaller form. Stealth spy.
Blackout - Takes out ability to fight back. Likes to pulse blast electronics. First tier attacker. Transport, one of the biggest decepticons in the movie.

don't get me wrong -- i'm still gonna go see it when it comes out, and i'm gonna love it regardless. but still -- the claim has been that it's roughly based on the generation of Transformers that we watched in the cartoons. And while some characters were reconfigured over time, it'd still be nice to see the "originals" (though, the true originals were before even what we saw on the cartoons).

and you've got a point -- the cars need to be updated. besides, i always thought ironhide was kinda lame back in the day...Smile

[quote]Posted: Friday, July 28, 2006 at 11:55 pm EDT
Honestly I think everyone needs to just throw away all there preconcieved notions of how Transformers should be. Because this is gonna be a movie aimed towards the masses. Secondly almost every transformer we've grown to love has either died and come back at some point and gone thru several variations since we were kids. Plus all the vehicles they were when we were kids were all brands and models from back in the 80's. So they are gonna go with designs they believe are more appealing. I think so long as they stick with the essence of what Transformers was all about then it should be ok. Finally all these damn sites are just conjecture. No one really knows who is what this early in production.

Edit: Also that Semi at the bottom might not be Optimus. It could be a Combaticon. The Decepticons had a semi too. I mean where is the autobot symbol?

I think that when Sam Raimi was done with the Spiderman trilogy he might have been a good director for a movie like Transformers. Or maybe Peter Jackson. Both of them are geeky enough to pull a good movie out of their asses that would please both old skool fans as well as bring in the uninformed. James Cameron might not have been bad either.

I'll admit that The Rock, and Bad Boys were good. I enjoyed Armageddon, but it wasn't original. Heck, Deep Impact came out at about the same time. I haven't seen Bad Boys 2 yet. Transformers is just something I don't trust Bay with. The person that needs to direct this movie needs to be able to put a emotional element into it. A movie about transforming robots interacting with people will be a huge undertaking for this director. Bay doesn't qualify in my book. We'll see some cool transforming, and some huge explosions, and massive battles, but the story won't be there.
Anubis

The Island seems to be the only smirk I see on his record. I liked his other movies. Like The Rock, Armageddon, and the Bad Boy films. I think all directors are intitled to at least one crappy film. You can't always be on top of your game.

Gabie and I had a habit of going opening night, or Saturday night. Mostly the latter. It was our 'date night'. Now that our babysitter lives with us, we've also added the noon times. It's sounds like the others are unfortunate with the opening nights being distractions. If we were to do it in Springdale or Fayetteville, we do deal with unruliness of others. The people going to the theatre in Rogers behave themselves most of the time. No laughing girls, ringing phones, etc. The worst is crying babies. You'd think going to a horror movie at a 10PM showing would be avoiding crying babies. Apparently that isn't the case. I will say though, that lately it's been the noon watchings. But still ALWAYS at least opening weekend.

yeah, we saw pirates last weekend, but went a lot later. but it was still pretty good. until we tried to sit through the credits to see the bit at the end, and these 3 stupid girls sat down next to us (i mean next -- as in, no seat between us) and started talking through the whole credits.

we even asked them to "shut the fuck up" and they just talked louder. fucking bitches. it's ok though -- i stared at them all mean like as we left, and when I was waiting outside the bathrooms, I saw them. the one talky bitch hid behind a corner and made her friends watch for me until I was gone. so I kinda lingered around for a bit...Smile

I heard that the reason VW won't allow Transformers to use the Beetle for Bumblebee is that the company was originally started by Hitler and the Nazi government as "The People's Car" (hence, Volks Wagon). It is now the policy of VW, in light of the negativity of Germany's past (not to mention the company's), that no VW vehicle will be associated with war, fighting, or any other depiction of violence. Therefor, they disallowed the use of their image in a movie depicting a war.

I haven't bothered to google that, but I choose to believe it in order to accept Bumblebee as a Camaro. And hey, I've always accepted the Adidas vs. Puma story (2 German brothers that hated each other), and it turned out to be true... so, hey!.Smile

As for the movies on opening weekend -- our plan for the last few years has been to see movies on opening Sunday morning at Noon, when all the kids are in church, or post-church lunch. Works pretty good...Smile

[quote]Posted: Wednesday, July 12, 2006 at 6:23 pm EDT
For starters I never go to the theatre opening night anymore. It's not worth it, for the shear fact that no one gives a damn about the movie going experience. talking and not turning off cell phones, I will stop there.

Yes it's live action, and yes to me it looked silly even as a cartoon for a size change. BUT that is transformers...if not call it something else, I won't be upsetSmile This movie will be based off the idea of transformers and the names will be kept the same for ignorance sake, but it is not what we grew up with. If we accept that, then this movie should rockSmile

the whole point of Bumblebee being what he was..... Little Yellow Bug= Bee (bumble in nature) Little Yellow Bug= Little yellow VW. I know it's a clever play on words and for the most part Hollywood has no idea how to be clever anymore so the change fits. And yes I figured that Bay and Hollywood would bend over and grab ankles to make this a 2 hours GMC commercial instead of staying true to it's roots, but BumbleBee as a Camaro is just Funny.

It's actually news to me that Bay is doing this, last I heard it was Speilburg, which he sux too anymore. We need freshness!

I guess if I want to watch a kick ass Transformers movie I already own one.

I don't know if you remember my early posts for when they first announced Michael Bay. I decided to judge Bay by The Island. I figured it was going to be somewhat original, but it wasn't. It was pretty empty for a Michael Bay movie. His movies don't flow. They always seem forced. Now that I think about it, as unoriginal as Bay is, you'd think he'd stick with originality.

One thing someone suggested was that maybe the semi is before Optimus has touched it. So when he does, it'll lose the flame job, and be more Cybertronic.

Saint, you ask why the movie needs to be realistic. It's live action. If it were a cartoon, I could care less. Since it's live action, I would be disappointed to see Megatron turn into a larger than life robot from a handheld gun. Not only that, it would look really dumb on film. Well that's my opinion anyway. I want to believe that my car can transform into a robot. So they are going to make sure that happens in the movie.

I don't like Michael Bay, and Optimus is borderline strike one, but only because of the flame job. I also understand that this is a picture from filming 2 months in. So anything can happen. No matter what, I'm watching this opening night.
Saint
[quote]Posted: Wednesday, July 12, 2006 at 3:32 pm EDT
I don't like Optimus. It looks like he should be working for some redneck moving company instead of being the leader of the Autobots. Mark and I had talked about this yesterday and at last we heard Soundwave was supposed to be a helicopter... glad to see he's a radio, if that's true. Megatron should still be a gun. I don't understand how the "size" factor matters. It worked fine for the cartoon! And besides, if people can suspend disbelief long enough to deal with sentient shapechanging robots from outer space that are powered by some mystical thing called Energon, don't you think it might be feasible for them to be able to alter their structure in other ways? Like size?

Who are they making this movie for? Not the fans that propelled them to stardom in the beginning, that's for damn sure. I'd have to say this movie is at strike 2 for me. One more and I won't be seeing it until it's on the $.49 shelf at Hastings.

this is all loosly baised on the original series....soundwave is gonna be a radio but only like a foot tall and stuff. Megatron is gonna be a tank...not a gun cause he would be too small. I personaly like the original series but it cant be all the same and im cool with that. As for bumblebee as the new camero.....i really saw it coming. I figured it was a perfect opertunity for car companys to show off there new goods. I honestly thought about the new camero but i was hoping they would have the new 2008 dodge challenger but it looks like the movie has only signed with GM.....there goes that ideaFrown

Yeah, my guess is VW didn't hop on. Too bad for them. Another thing I heard, that may hurt is that there is going to be an Xbox and Ipod transformer. Obviously they will be enemies. I just get the feeling that they will be comedy relief, so I hope this is just a bad rumor.

Did you find any links to the Decepticon Police Car? Instead of TO PROTECT AND SERVE, it says TO PUNISH AND ENSLAVE. I thought that was cool.

I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt on making Bumblebee a Camaro though. Lets just hope they don't fuck up Optimus.
